A researcher from Boston University who followed the career development of the people with the best average in school (or valedictorians, as they are known in the United States) found that these individuals, in fact, did achieve many goals and are in important positions within their companies.

A researcher from Boston University who followed the career development of the people with the best average in school (or valedictorians, as they are known in the United States) found that these individuals, in fact, did achieve many goals and are in important positions within their companies.

“But how many of these outstanding students have changed, dominated or impressed the world? The answer seems to be clear: zero. ” The quote above belongs to Eric Barker’s new book Barking Up the Wrong Tree, where he takes as a source the recent Boston studio.

The point that Barker wants to make clear is that, although the best students are usually successful to a certain extent, few of them manage to e the legendary figures we all dream of being.

On the contrary, students who struggle and do not particularly enjoy formal education are those who usually have more opportunities to change the world. In fact, another study of 700 millionaires in the United States showed that most of them had average or below-average grades in high school and college.

Karen Arnold, a researcher at Boston University, told Barker: “Essentially we are honoring a young person’s compliance and ability to follow the established system.”

In other words, the people who get the best grades are those who have discovered what exactly teachers want and always comply with it.
